2016 Volunteer of the Year - Dorothy Harvey
Dorothy grew up outside of Elkton, SD. After years of living on a farm outside of Brookings she and her husband, Ralph, retired to a home in Brookings. Dorothy has four grown children, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren (with two more to arrive shortly). Before her retirement, Dorothy worked almost 23 years at 3M. For the first few years she and Ralph were snowbirds but now they spend all year in Brookings but they still take their camper and boat to the river for fishing and relaxing. They both took up golfing and became members of the golf course. Dorothy enjoys working in her yard when the weather is warm enough. She also goes to the gym three times per week. Every morning she goes on her computer to do the daily jigsaw puzzle. Dorothy also enjoys her ice cream! She always says no matter how full you are…there’s always room for ice cream….it fills the nooks and crannies between the food! When asked if she’d ever been on stage she said she couldn’t recall…it might have been too long ago to remember! Dorothy began volunteering with Brookings Community Theatre about four years ago as an usher/greeter. She then moved into the box office to sell tickets. At about the same time she took over the duties of running the bake sale. Dorothy helps in any way that we need her. So say hello next time you’re buying your ticket at our box office or buying a treat at intermission!
